Patient Rights

  • Patient rights are as follows:
  • The patient has a right to be told all the facts about his/her illness.
  • The patient has the right to have his/her medical records explained.
  • The patient has the right to be made aware of risks and side effects, if any, of the treatment prescribed for him/her.
  • When a Patient is given a physical examination, he/she has a right to be handled with consideration and due regard for his/her modesty.
  • The patient has the right to know about his/her doctor's qualification.
  • The patient has the right to complete confidentiality regarding his/her illness.
  • If the Patient is unsure about the treatment prescribed, especially when an operation or surgery suggested, he/she has a right to get a second opinion from any specialist.
  • The patient has the right to be told in advance what an operation is for and the possible risks involved.
  • If this is not possible because of Patient being unconscious or for some other reasons, his/her nearest relative must be told before they consent to the operation.
  • If the Patient is to be discharged or moved to another hospital, he/she has the right to be informed in advance and also a freedom to make his/her own choice of hospital or nursing home, in consultation with the Doctor.
  • The patient has the right to get his/her case papers upon request.
  • The patient has the right to be treated with respect and dignity, in a safe and clean environment regardless of his age, gender, race, origin, religion, sexual orientation or disabilities.
  • The patient has the right to get information from the hospital regarding the expected cost of treatment and payment policies.
